Tag Heuer F1 Chronograph CAH7011 Repair and Service
This Tag Heuer Calibre S was the owners first nice watch which he wore daily for many years. Over time as he built a collection and the condition of this watch declined, the watch became a beater until it finally stopped and was put away in a watch box and forgotten about until the owner decided to have a clear out and offered it for sale.
The watch arrives and the initial inspection reveals a broken sapphire glass, the stem is broken and the bracelet shows heavy wear.
The Calibre S movement has outstanding accuracy, a perpetual calendar and a long battery life. This meant that when the previous owner broke the winding stem instead of seeking repair he superglued the crown to the case and carried on wearing the watch in that state.
Removing the bezel reveals the dirt underneath. If you ever buy a used watch with a removable bezel, a service is always a great idea before wearing the watch to remove the hidden dirt from the previous owners wrist.
The clasp shows the usual marks associated with a daily wearer. Nothing too deep or unusual so this watch should refinish like new.
When the new crown and stem arrives and is temporarily fitted a new lithium battery can be inserted to check the functionality of the movement. It springs to life and tests well. The Tag Calibre S is an inhouse movement. It is an outstanding piece of micro engineering, incredibly complicated and packed full of features.
The watch is rebuilt and pressure tested. The time and calendar setting on this watch is a little complicated and time consuming but the great advantage is that once the initial set up is done the watch will change the date automatically at the end of each month accounting for 30 and 31 day months and even leap years.
The bracelet is refinished and the watch is ready to find a new owner. For a quartz service such as this we charge £120. Including the refinishing and re-sealing. For just a battery and reseal with pressure test we charge just £40
This watch also required approximately £80 worth of genuine Tag Heuer spare parts so the total cost for a customer would have been in the region of £200.
