The Watch after servicing

This beautiful 39mm Dark Rhodium Rolex arrived with a smashed sapphire crystal. When sapphire shatters it can break into very small pieces which can enter the movement so a full service is necessary to return the watch to full working order.

The owner of the watch had the foresight to pull out the crown and stop the watch from running which has helped prevent too much damage to the dial from the hands dragging glass against the dial surface.

The first step of the service is to remove the broken glass and carry out a pre-service test.

Pre-service testing shows an erratic trace, a sign of debris and lack of oil on the escapement surfaces

The case passes the pressure test with its new glass and seals. It is now very important to fully dry the case whilst we finish the movement service to ensure there is no risk of water entering the movement.

We are now ready to rebuild the watch and carry out a second pressure test in order to sign off the watch as water resistant.

The watch is now ready to refit the bracelet. We then carry out a testing period which involves a timekeeping check and automatic winding check. When the watch is signed off as functioning correctly it is ready for return to it’s owners wrist.

The cost of this repair was £380 and took 2 weeks. If you have a similar watch which requires attention please contact us at contact@nottinghamwatchrepair.com for more information.
